As I was getting ready to log on and update my xanga site today, I noticed a posting from my sister instructing me that I had to update my site. Me, being the contrary person that I am, very nearly chose not to go ahead with my plans out of pure spite. However, it is high time that I posted again, so here you go. And not because Haley told me to. So there. (Haley, I hope we haven't been apart so long that you don't recognize the loving sarcasm)
So! I was in Holland all last week. Oh, how I love the Continent (they always call it that in old books ). My friend Alissa's fiance lives near Amsterdam, so four of us went and stayed with him for our Spring Break. It was so great - Amsterdam is one quaint, modern, bustling, bicycle-filled, crazy city. The short list of things I saw and did is as follows: Van Gogh museum, Rijks museum (art), Anne Frank House, Heineken museum (lots of fun!), Keukenhof (big fields of tulips and other flowers), Boom Chicago Comedy Club, Pancake Bakery, canal tour, shopping (yay for European shoes!)...the list could go on and on. Needless to say, we got very little sleep, spent lots of money, and had an absolutely wonderful time.
I'm going to get on a little tiny soapbox here for a second. I gave blood today to become a part of the National Bone Marrow Registry. My class worked with the first year medical students to advertise the drive. I urge all of you to become a part of the registry - all you would need to give right now is a small vial of blood for HLA typing. Once your blood is typed, your information becomes a part of the registry and if in a year or 10 years you become a match for someone in need of a bone marrow transplant, they call you up and ask if you are able and willing. They desperately need more people on the registry and it's a great way to help save someone's life. Here is some information on what my class did to help - it also contains a link to the national bone marrow donation web site.
