Currently Watching: Sports Night, The Complete Series

This is my 600th day of being a xanga member. Mini-wave in celebration of me.

Sooooo, I presented my Master's project to my Advisory Committee this morning and, after making the nit-picky changes they suggested (as I predicted they would), my project will be a thing of the past. Bliss. The presentation lasted about an hour. That's a friggin' long time to talk about respiratory alveoli and the blood-air barrier. Trust me.

I'm leaving for England on Saturday. I haven't packed yet. Haven't even thought about it. Haven't dug my passport out of my aptly-named Drawer O' Crap. Haven't checked my flight numbers. None of it. It just doesn't feel like I'm really going yet. What is wrong with me? (I know that is a loaded question. Be gentle.)

There's more stuff going on, but I'll save it for another time.
Love you guys!

PS - 10 points if you can tell me the exact Friends scenario that the "mini-wave in celebration of me" came from.

Ben Folds Five

Ho. Ly. Crap. I am done with my Master's project...ish. I've finished the version I will be presenting next week. I'm sure the faculty will end up suggesting a slew of nit-picky changes once I have presented my Master-piece (Hee. I'm so funny.), but for now I shall revel in the glory of a massive project completed.

Last night was the opening of the annual UGA/MCG Medical Illustration Exhibit. I trekked up to Athens again (that's like the fifth or so time this semester) and was there for the festivities. It's a juried exhibit, with three awards: two honorable mentions and the Bill Stenstrom Award of Excellence (basically "best in show"). One of the first year students and one of my classmates won the honorable mentions. As for the Stenstrom Award...well...I won. :) Happy times. That means my artwork has taken the top award in the last two shows I've entered. Neato.

Seven weeks until graduation. WEIRD.

Oh, Inverted World

I stayed up waaay too late last night...I was doing my laundry until 4:30am. That'll teach me to start it at 11:30. In my defense, I was up at the studio working on my Master's project until 10:45, so it's not like I could have started it a whole lot sooner (the laundry, not the project. The project is yet another feather in my huge, gaudy procrastination cap. Wow. Crappy metaphor. Anyway...) I couldn't just put in a load and go to bed because then the clothes in the washer would get that musty smell and the clothes in the dryer would get all wrinkled and that's just not cricket.

So I sat at my computer and did fairly useless things for four hours. At one point, around 3:45am, my mouse pointer crossed one of those annoying emoticon ads - you know the ones that yell things at you? Right, so as I was staring at the computer and moving my mouse like an automaton, the mouse touched one of those emoticon things and it yelled "hellooooo" and I replied in a weak and defeated voice "hiiiiiii...." And then I thought, "Wow, that was weird. I'll probably write about that on my xanga tomorrow." I'm not crazy, am I? Noooo. Shhhhhh.

I had some good news this past week - I was awarded a fairly prestigious scholarship/grant for my Master's thesis. I applied last November and I found out I was one of the winners (actually the only one from my school) last Thursday. So that's cool.

I played* softball with a bunch of people from church this afternoon - it was lots o' fun. I spent the rest of the evening/night working at the studio. Now I'm home.

* - I am using the term "played" loosely, when describing my attempts at the game of softball. I gave it a good solid effort, but my contributions to the team included placing myself strategically near a good player in the outfield so I could shriek "it's all yours, Jim!" every time the ball sailed in my direction. My batting efforts were slightly less dismal than my catching in that I actually made contact with the ball a couple of times. Unfortunately, I shocked the hell out of myself the first time I actually hit it and stood there for a second muttering "woah, I hit it" and then belatedly started my hustle to first. In spite of all this, I had a great time and got to enjoy the 85 degree weather and the fun people from church. Next time, though, I think a game of basketball is in order - now there's a sport I can play.

Currently Reading: The Canterbury Papers: A Novel

Went to the Ben Harper concert in Athens last night - great show! They played for nearly two hours, which I thought was pretty impressive. I was more than ready to sit down by the end, but it was well worth it. Plus I got to drink some Hoegaarden at the Globe and eat some pasta at Transmetropolitan before the concert, so good times all around.

My parents called me yesterday before they left for England - they said it was to "say goodbye and tell me they love me," but I think it was really to gloat. They are spending the next week or so visiting my sister - she's studying abroad, the lucky girl. 3/5 of my family is in England right now...I am jealous.

Ok Pat, you can answer the question now if you want to. I might even give you the dollar. Maybe.

"What's the difference between a salesman and a saleswoman?"

I'll give you a dollar if you know the correct answer.
(Not you, Pat. Two reasons: 1) I know you know. 2) I haven't forgotten the Michael Rappaport/Eric S-whatshisname incident.)

Happy Birthday to Aunnee! She is 24 today (well, yesterday, since it's after midnight now) and has been my best friend for the past 14 1/2 years. In honor of the day of Mrs. Andrea Catherine Trampe's birth, I give you these photos. Enjoy. Don't laugh too hard.

6th grade graduation.
I think my collar had aspirations of world domination. Fortunately for all
citizens of the free world, its plans were thwarted by my ginormous puffy sleeves.

My 13th birthday.
Aunnee was rather stoic that year.
My glasses are friggin huge.

Aunnee's wedding day.
Just in case the whole dress/veil combo didn't tip you off.

That is all.
