My Quads Hate Me Right Now

which is ok, because the feeling is mutual.

So, 2008 is my running year. And today was my first running day. As I was looking at my Beginning Runner's Training program this afternoon thinking about my impending evening run, I was pretty excited. Really looking forward to getting back into the running thing. And the prescribed run for the evening was: Run 1 minute, Walk 2 minutes. Repeat 10 times. "Pshaw!," thought I. "How easy that will be! A mere minute of running and then a two minute break? Cake! I do the elliptical machine for 40 minutes, no problem! Open road, here I come!" As you can see, my thoughts were laden with naïveté and exclamation points.

And then came the run.

My loverly htd and I started out with a nice brisk warm-up walk. Then, at precisely 8:48pm, my first minute of running began - actual running outdoors with no cushioning elliptical motion to take the edge off of dragging around my sizeable (although less sizeable than a year ago) ass. Oy. I completed my 10, 3-minute rotations at 9:18pm. I did not die.

It's possible that I may have given the angry eyes to the seasoned runners who trotted on past me at an easy, breezy, cover-girl-worthy clip. It's possible that I may not be able to get up from the chair on which I am currently sitting. It's also possible that if I stick with this training program that I'll be healthier, happier, and achieve a major goal I've set out for myself this year.

It's possible.

Go Kristen! I'm amazed. Running for even one minute makes me feel all out of breath and like I might vomit. I could walk on the treadmill all day long, but run? Yeah... not so much. I'm very impressed.

Your quads may hate you know, but soon they'll be mocking the other quads as you jog by in your own easy breezy cover girl kind of way. :)
