So I'm headed to Canada this week. Toronto, to be exact. I've never been to Canada before - should be fun. The university in Toronto has a Medical Illustration grad program, so us MCGers and the Johns Hopkins students are all going up for a conference Thursday through Sunday. I think this is a record for me - second time out of the country in less than two weeks - yay for traveling!

PS - Cassie, I'm not sure of the geography of the Toronto area, thus I am not familiar with its aquatic landscape. However, should I see a decent sized body of water, I shall leave the usual mark in your honor. Nothin' but love from your Georgia cousin.

Currently Watching: The Fifth Element

As I was getting ready to log on and update my xanga site today, I noticed a posting from my sister instructing me that I had to update my site. Me, being the contrary person that I am, very nearly chose not to go ahead with my plans out of pure spite. However, it is high time that I posted again, so here you go. And not because Haley told me to. So there. (Haley, I hope we haven't been apart so long that you don't recognize the loving sarcasm)

So! I was in Holland all last week. Oh, how I love the Continent (they always call it that in old books ). My friend Alissa's fiance lives near Amsterdam, so four of us went and stayed with him for our Spring Break. It was so great - Amsterdam is one quaint, modern, bustling, bicycle-filled, crazy city. The short list of things I saw and did is as follows: Van Gogh museum, Rijks museum (art), Anne Frank House, Heineken museum (lots of fun!), Keukenhof (big fields of tulips and other flowers), Boom Chicago Comedy Club, Pancake Bakery, canal tour, shopping (yay for European shoes!)...the list could go on and on. Needless to say, we got very little sleep, spent lots of money, and had an absolutely wonderful time.

I'm going to get on a little tiny soapbox here for a second. I gave blood today to become a part of the National Bone Marrow Registry. My class worked with the first year medical students to advertise the drive. I urge all of you to become a part of the registry - all you would need to give right now is a small vial of blood for HLA typing. Once your blood is typed, your information becomes a part of the registry and if in a year or 10 years you become a match for someone in need of a bone marrow transplant, they call you up and ask if you are able and willing. They desperately need more people on the registry and it's a great way to help save someone's life. Here is some information on what my class did to help - it also contains a link to the national bone marrow donation web site.

Currently Reading: The Human Brain: An Introduction to Its Functional Anatomy

by John Nolte, Ph.D.

And the countdown is on! It is now officially 3 days until I leave for Atlanta, 4 days until I leave for the Netherlands, and 5 days until I get to Amsterdam. Hooray for Spring Break trips!

As for my life here in good ol' Augusta, it's aiight (thanks again for the slang flashcards, Cassie! They are mad crunk.). We started Neuroanatomy on Monday which means once again I have classes every day at 8:00. Just when I was getting used to this classes on Tuesdays and Friday afternoon schedule... Anyway, neuro's ok. It's in the same classroom we had gross anatomy in with the same students and the same professors. It's kind of like we never finished gross anatomy - and that scares me just a bit. I'm still wondering how they are going to fit an entire semester's worth of information into the next five weeks. Perhaps I'm better off not knowing.

Currently Watching: Friends, Season 9

Yesterday I went to Athens for the annual UGA/MCG Scientific and Medical Illustration art exhibit. We got to tour the vet med facilities and medical illustration department in the afternoon. In the evening there was the show and award ceremony. After that, there was a party at the scientific illustration professor's house. We had a great time - and we got to ride to and from Athens in an authentic late 80's Ford Aerostar minivan. We couldn't have asked for more glamorous transportation.

Currently Reading: The Dark Tower (The Dark Tower, Book 7)

by Stephen King

So it's been awhile - sorry about that. My lack of posting has been due to a combination of business, laziness, and not-much-to-reportedness...or something like that. Anyway, here's the quick rundown on the last weeks.

My mom and dad came to visit last weekend. It was so good to see them! I showed them all the sights of the bustling metropolis that is Augusta, Georgia - which took about a day (maybe less...). My brakes on my car decided to go kaput, so I got those fixed, which incidentally relieved me of my tax refund dollars. We went to Charleston on Sunday and wandered that beautiful city. They were here until Tuesday morning, so it was the perfect amount of time to show them what it is I do down here in my little area of the South.

For St. Patrick's Day I went out with a few friends and had the obligatory green beer (as pictured to your left). As far as I know, Alissa was the only one of us with any Irish heritage, so our outing was in celebration of her ancestors...or so we said...

Spring Break is coming up in two weeks - look out Netherlands, because here I come! What did you do (or what do you have planned) for your Spring Break?

In Between Dreams

A quiet weekend. A very quiet weekend indeed. I did some quasi-fruitful shopping. I watched some funny movies. I read a good book. Is all this worthy of a xanga posting, you may be wondering. I submit that it is not. The real motive of tonight's posting is to introduce you to a fabulous website I stumbled across this weekend.

If you are the kind of person who lies awake at night wondering about the exact ratio of peanuts to other nuts in a can of mixed nuts (get that?), then this website is for you. If you frequently ponder the actual number of burned cd's you can write on with a sharpie marker before it runs out, then this site is for you. If you have ever been overwhelmed with the burning desire to know exactly how many feet of noodles are in a package of ramen noodles, then this site is for you. It is a site rife with knowledge and zany good times. Enjoy.

Currently Watching: The Notebook

I had a great weekend! Aunnee came to visit me and, true to form, we had ourselves a marvelous time. Now my apartment seems just a bit too quiet...

For any of you ladies (or guys) who are gluttons for punishment in the form of unstoppable tears, I recommend that you watch The Notebook. Be sure to stop by Sam's Club and invest in one of those jumbo packs of Kleenex before you start the movie. I do not recommend that you watch this with a date, as you will surely come out of the experience somewhat disfigured by your weeping. Watch it with a close girl friend and sob away.

And finally - Haley, you inspire me. I love you!
