Georgia On My Mind

Recap, y'all.

So I spent the majority of last week in the land o' humidity, cockroaches, and Waffle Houses - and I loved every minute of it. What a great trip! Here is my day by day recap, which I'm sure you've all been waiting for... o_O

Tuesday: Travel day. I left Phoenix at 1:30 and got to Columbia at right around midnight. Yeah...my connecting flight out of Houston was delayed. Keffy and Bea met me at the airport and it was so great to see them! Mad props to Bea for making the trip - he had to go to work at some ungodly hour the next morning.

Wednesday: Ran errands with Keffy. She was getting ready to move back to Chicago, so we did lots of packing and things and stopped by the school. That night Keffy and I threw a fondue party for a bunch of people. Neither of us had ever made fondue before, so that was an adventure, although it actually turned out really well. She also showed everyone her completed Master's project. It was an animation about the development of colorectal cancer and Bea narrated, so we got to hear him say "rectum" a bunch of times. That was fun. (Actually he did a fantastic job - go Bea!) That night we watched Arrested Development until...oh...maybe 2:00am. AWEsome.

Thursday: More errands, including taking Kathy's dogs to the vet so they could "say goodbye." Uh huh. As I was sitting there in the National Hills vet's office, all I could think to myself was "wow, I've been in this exact room at least five times...and I don't even have a dog." Yeah, I think I live vicariously through my friends. I need a dog. Anyway, after that Dave, Virginia, Bea and I all went up to the lake for the evening. Pizza, sunset on the lake, and Scrabble - good times! I lost miserably at Scrabble - in part because I got, like, ALL the E's. I'm not kidding. It was ridiculous. And the time I was just about to get rid of a bunch of them with the best word ever (WEENIE), SOMEone stole my spot on the board. But whatever, I'm not bitter.

Friday: I got up at 6:30 so I could be ready to go to Keffy's hooding ceremony. Do you have any idea how early that is, Phoenix time? That is 3:30 in the morning. SO wrong. But it was a good ceremony. Graduation was in the afternoon. Bea and I rolled in to the arena around 1:15 and couldn't get a hold of the people we were going to sit with. So we stood by a wall on the second level and scanned the entire arena for maybe 15 minutes or so looking for Sean's bright red tie. Lots of red ties - no Sean. So we walked all the way around to the other side and scanned the side we were just on. It was like Where's Waldo on a grand scale. Yeah, we found them directly above the spot we'd just been standing in on the other side. Figures. After graduation we went to the best dinner EVER at this place called Calvert's: steak, twice-baked potatoes, amaretto sours, cheesecake. Holy crap.

Saturday: Packing packing packing in the humid Georgia heat. Ugh. Kathy's got a lot of crap, you guys. LuckilyIMEAN unfortunately, we had to leave around 2:00 in the afternoon to go pick up Andrew and head to Atlanta for the concert. WHAT an awesome show. Dave Bazan talked to Bea. And he ALMOST played Arizona, but then he didn't because he didn't have a capo. I mean come on.

Sunday: Keffy and Sean and her parents rolled out of town early, headed for Chicago. Apparently they got everything to fit in the trucks. I got to see all the church people again - I miss that place so much. Bea's mom was in town for Mother's Day and we all went to Gwen's house for a cookout lunch type thing after church (more amazing steak - I had more red meat on this trip than I have in the past year. My iron levels are probably stellar.) We had a bit of a mad dash to the airport. I had to run through the terminal in my Jesus Sandals that htd got me in Greece, which, may I say, were NOT made for running and I'm sure was NOT a pretty sight. Oh well, at least I made it (they actually had to re-open the jetway door to let me on the plane). Rolled into Phoenix around 11:45pm and got home around 12:30. zzZZZzzzz

So THAT was my trip. Good times for sure. The latest Quarterly came out whilST I was in Jojah, so I'll have to post a copy of it here so you all can see my latest cover. Exciting, no?

Aaaaand I'm spent. Lovelove.
