Currently Playing: Garden State Soundtrack

Fact: Georgia gets ice storms.
Fact: Georgia residents do not know how to drive on ice.
Fact: Georgia residents drive anyway.

These were the three lessons I learned this weekend. It rained all day Saturday and, with temperatures of about 32 degrees, formed a thick sheet of ice over everything. While it was beautiful on the trees and the pink blossoms outside my front door (yes, there are flowers blooming right outside my front door. And yes, it is January.), it made for treacherous driving conditions. So I chose to stay inside and get things done instead of attempting to perambulate with the crazies (the crazies being the Georgia drivers).

I also decided to prolong my stint as a Martha Stewart facsimile by making myself some curtains this weekend. I have a very large window in my bedroom and it has always seemed a little bare. So, using sheets and nails, I managed to fashion myself some rather attractive curtains. Whether my landlord will appreciate the nail holes above my window is another story, but I am relying on the fact that the nail holes are very high up and my landlord is what I would call a "wee little man" (not named Zaccheus, unfortunately). Here's hoping that they are too high up for him to notice.

Currently Watching: Brighton Beach Memoirs

So I started today with a not-so-pleasant surprise. Upon leaving my house to go pick up Kathy so we could be good girls and go work out at the gym I discovered that the front driver's side tire of my car was flat as a pancake. That effectively put the kibosh on me driving to the gym. However, being the dedicated girls we are (we've been to the gym TWICE now), Kathy took up the slack and came to get me. So, after working out at the gym and spending some quality time in the studio drawing and researching, I got to come home and change a tire. Such are the joys of my life. I aired up the flat tire and we will see tomorrow if it will hold the air or if I will need to shell out the kiz-ash for a new one. Until then, I get to tool around flaunting my ghetto spare tire. It really helps make my 95 Ford Taurus just that much cooler.

Another week is underway and I am pleased to report that I actually have things to do this week! If you haven't stumbled across this fact yet, the past two weeks have been a tad slow and I've been going a tad stir crazy for want of something to do. That's two tads, and unless we are talking about oddly named men who are here to cater to my every whim, two tads is too many. So, I now have three, count them 1-2-3, classes this week, with plans for a Wednesday trip to Atlanta for some fun with the girls.

On another note, I am liking the projects we are working on so far this semester. I am currently researching and drawing a Medical Legal panel concerning Retinopathy of Prematurity and an infographic about the use of adult stem cell donation in the treatment of Leukemia. The projects are definitely more in-depth this time around, which I enjoy.

Currently Watching: The Big Lebowski

So tonight I made dinner for all of my classmates and it turned out very well, if I do say so myself. To quote my marvelous cousin Cassie "I've been getting my Betty Crocker on" these last couple of days. Although, it's been a bit more Martha Stewart than Betty Crocker I've been channeling (minus the attitude).

Tonight's menu included:
Parmesan Chicken
Oh-so-good mashed potatoes (recipe: Cathy Kahle)
A vegetable medley with oil, vinegar, and italian seasonings
Homemade egg dinner rolls (mmm) (recipe: Aunt Jeanette)
Sumptuous apple pie made entirely from scratch
Yellow Tail merlot
Various beverages

Thankfully it all turned out very well - the picture to the left was taken in between the main meal time and dessert (thus the reason for the lone piece of chicken and the untouched apple pie). A note: this picture was taken with my new digital camera which I am enjoying thoroughly. It arrived at 4:30 this afternoon which made it necessary to take numerous pictures during the evening. Not all of them are exciting (case in point: this picture). So. There you go.

Currently Watching: Napoleon Dynamite

I just ordered myself a brand new digital camera. In 7-10 days, a Nikon Coolpix 3200 will show up at my door and I shall be a happy camera owner once again. It's very exciting.

For those of you who have never seen Napoleon Dynamite, you really don't know what you're missing. If you have numchuck skills, if you have ever been so hot that you just had to shave your head, if the liger is pretty much your favorite animal, then this movie is for you.

Currently Reading: Drop Dead, My Lovely

by Ellis Weiner

Things I like:
- My sister
- Friends (as in people I love or "my peeps," if you will...and also the tv show)
- Georgia
- Sarcasm
- Big mugs (as in large coffee cups, not enormous faces)

Things I don't like:
- Going back to classes after three weeks of vacation
- Putting away all the crap I brought back from said vacation
- Hot dogs (as in the "food"...overly warm canines don't really bother me,
other than evoking a vague sense of pity)

Currently Reading: The Stand

by Stephen King

Happy 2005! Just a few more days of break and then I'm back in Georgia. I think I'll be ready to go back due to the simple fact that today it is 14 degrees and is heavily snowing and blowing, and in Georgia it is about 75 degrees and is sunny and beautiful. Darn the midwest winters and hooray for the warm South!

Currently Watching: Friends, Season 8

This break has been great so far - very relaxing. I've gotten to see a lot of my family and friends in the last couple weeks, so that has been refreshing. I've also had a lot of free time on my hands, which, as you should know, means that I have read several books recently. Thus far I have read: Forever by Pete Hamill, Into the Wild by John Krakauer, Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, and My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult. I am now debating which of the two following books to read first: The Testament by John Grisham or The Stand by Stephen King. Ah, the difficult choices I must face... Hope you all are having a good break!
