10 weeks to go
Week 21 went like this:
Swim: 2 workouts, 2hr 26min, 5600m
Bike: 3 workouts, 5hr 20min
Run: 4 workouts, 4hr 35min, 25.25miles
Strength: 2 workouts, 30min
Total: 12hr 51min
Challenges:
Due to four days out of town, Saturday's usual outdoor long bike ride was replaced by a heinous indoor spin bike workout of suck. For two hours and forty minutes I pedaled away with nothing but the tunes on my iPod to distract me. I'm sure the other patrons of the Colorado State University rec center who came and went during my tenure of pain were perplexed by both the solitary cyclist who seemingly never left and the ever-increasing pool of sweat under her bike.
Accomplishments:
Ran the Platte River Half Marathon with htd! We were at a significantly high elevation (5351ft). It was cold (in the 40s). And then the wind picked up (the weather service reported NNW winds ranging from 28.8 to 35.7mph). Guess which direction we were running? (If you guessed north, you would be correct!) And then it started raining a little. And then the rain turned to a little bit of snow. And then I shivered for the next three hours. (The race was htd's graduation present from me. I signed her up two weeks ago. She's a lucky, lucky lady.)
Surprises:
We finished the race with personal record times for both of us. I mean, I only shaved off a minute and 15 seconds from my previous fastest official half marathon, but with those conditions, the porta potty stop, and the "oh no my race number is blowing away I better chase it down and repin it" stop, I'd say that is pretty freakin' surprising.
Bonus:
My new niece, Avery Lauren, was born on April 10th. And htd kicked some serious ass at her MFA reading (the reason for my trip to CO). I love my family.
